You also cross several rock-fall zones and the steep moraine section leading to Tapovan is a sheer test of physical and mental endurance. While it is a challenging trek, even beginners can take it on with the right preparation.
Nature Lover: The trek is approximately 18 kilometers long and takes around 5-6 days to complete, depending on the pace of the trekker. The best time to undertake the Gangotri Gaumukh trek is from May to June and from September to November, as the weather during these months is generally pleasant and the trekking conditions are favorable.

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Uttarkashi to Gangotri

Travel: Drive from Uttarkashi (95 km) to Gangotri (Uttarkashi district).
Activities: Check into a guest house, visit the Gangotri temple, and arrange permits for the Gangotri National Park.
Altitude: Gangotri is at an altitude of 3,100 meters (10,200 ft).

Day 2: Gangotri to Bhojwasa

Trek: Trek from Gangotri (3,800 m) view Chirbasa (3,600 m), a distance of aapproximately14km.
Duration: The trek takes around 6-8hours.
Terrain: The trek involves a steep initial ascent followed by a gradual climb.
Highlights: The trail follows the Bhagirathi River, and you’ll see pine trees en route.
Altitude: bhojwasa is at an altitude of 3800 meters (12056 ft)

Day 3: Bhojwasa to Tapovan

Trek: Trek from bhojwasa (3,800 m) to Tapovan (4443 m), view Goumukh Glacier a distance of approximately 6 km.
Duration: The trek takes around 5 hours.
Terrain: T surrounded by tall peaks.
Terrain: This is a challenging day, involving a 2-hour glacier walk and a steep final ascent.
Highlights: Stunning views of Mount Shivling, Meru, and other giant mountains.
Altitude: Tapovan is at an altitude of 4,460 meters (14,632 ft).

Day 4: Tapovan to Bhojbasa

Trek: Trek from Tapovan (4,460 m) to Bhojbasa (3,800 m), a distance of approximately 6 km.
Duration: The trek takes around 5 hours.
Terrain: The trek involves a descent, including loose rocks and areas of the Gaumukh Glacier.
Altitude: Bhojbasa is at an altitude of 3,800 meters (12,467 ft).
